Sound Memory LIVE
Seventy-five minutes of voice and rhythm, backed by real neuroscience, to spark new brain cells and sharpen how you remember.
No experience needed · nothing to buy · replay included
This is not Sound Mind again
Memory is a different subject, and it gets its own session.
If you came to Sound Mind, you already know the broad strokes of brain health. This is not that talk with a new title on it.
Sound Memory goes somewhere narrower and deeper. Neurogenesis, which is the growing of new brain cells. Synaptogenesis, which is the building of new connections between them. And specifically, how rhythm and voice can be used as memory training rather than as relaxation.
The centrepiece is two rhythm-based memory workouts you do with your hands. Not movement breaks between slides. Actual memory training, done live, in real time, with me.
You will not be lectured at. There are slides, and they are short, and most of the seventy-five minutes is you making sound.

What you'll be able to do
Five things, using nothing but sound and your own hands.
- Support the growth of new brain cells
- Build new neural pathways
- Sharpen memory with music-based memory workouts
- Boost brain power and cognition
- Reach a state of profound mental clarity
- Take home a daily habits plan you'll actually use
No experience of any kind is required. No instrument, no app, no equipment. The rhythm work is done with your hands on your lap, and if you can clap you can do all of it.
Start to finish
What we actually do for seventy-five minutes.
- Grounding openWhere you are tuning in from, and a ten second inner check-in. One honest word for how you are doing. Optional, always. Listen to your body.
- Brain science, simply explainedShort slide segments on what erodes brain health, and what regenerates it. Neurogenesis and synaptogenesis in plain language, without turning into a lecture.
- Sound as vibrationThe first hands-on piece. A guided exercise working with voice and rhythm together.
- The Neuro Memory WorkoutHands-only rhythm patterns used as memory training. You learn a pattern, then you hold it while something changes around it.
- The Neurogenic ExerciseThe second memory workout, built on the first. This is the one people write to me about afterwards.
- Daily habits and your BlueprintA short daily habits segment, then the written Sound Memory Blueprint you keep and use. Live Q and A to close.
And you leave with it written down.
The Sound Memory Blueprint is a set of daily habits with no thirty-day countdown attached and nothing to buy at the end of it. Plus the full replay, yours to keep.
Why these methods and not others
Seven pieces of published research.
I am not going to tell you that sound cures anything. What I will tell you is why these particular practices, and not some other ones, are the ones I teach.
- Rhythm training changes the brainDrum training has been shown to produce long-term plasticity in the cerebellum.
- Sound-based vagus nerve stimulationA 2013 study in the Journal of Natural Science, Biology and Medicine found vagus nerve stimulation, including through sound, promotes neurogenesis.
- Movement helps, measurablyA 2019 study found 45 to 60 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise significantly improved cognitive function in adults over 50.
- When you eat appears to matterA 2020 study found that restricting eating to an eight to ten hour daily window sparked neurogenesis and improved hippocampal memory.
- Sugar works against youA high-sugar diet is linked to cognitive impairment and negative neuroplasticity.
- So does the televisionJohns Hopkins research links heavy TV viewing in midlife to memory loss and reduced cranial grey matter.
- The daily habits frameworkBuilt on Harvard neuroscientist Dr Rudolph Tanzi's SHIELD guide, which is where the take-home plan comes from.
The take-home plan
SHIELD.
Your Blueprint is built on a framework from Dr Rudolph Tanzi at Harvard. Six things, and none of them cost money.
We go through what each one actually means in practice, and how the sound work fits alongside them. You leave with it written down rather than remembered.
From people who have been to these
What a live session is like.
"Hands down one of the best events I have ever been to. I learned so much, and Jim's style of teaching is laid back and reassuring so I felt comfortable to try out the new skills."
Sydney S."What an awesome event this was. The knowledge and experience that Jim provided was way beyond my expectations. I highly recommend it."
Linda K."It is better than one can imagine. He makes learning easy, he is very generous with the teachings, and he genuinely wants us to succeed. I make it a point to attend any of his events I can."
Connie L."It is like Jim is speaking just to you. He helps you understand and use these techniques for yourself, he is a great teacher."
Janice"What a beautiful and soul giving experience. His ability to help people feel at ease and release walls, so that we may go out into the world with this new uplifting skill, is truly beyond words."
Robin S."I love Jim's enthusiasm, his spark, and he's so down-to-earth."

Seventy-five minutes. Two memory workouts. One plan you keep.
Beginner friendly, and in this case that means genuinely beginner friendly. If you can clap your hands, you have everything the session requires.
And if you came to Sound Mind, this is new material rather than the same session in a different jumper.

Before you register
The seven things people ask.
I came to Sound Mind. Is this the same thing?
No. Sound Mind covered brain health broadly. Sound Memory goes specifically at neurogenesis and memory, and the two rhythm-based memory workouts at the centre of it are not in Sound Mind. If you were at the first one you will recognise the format, not the content.
Do I need any rhythm ability?
None. The patterns are done with your hands on your lap and I build them one piece at a time. Nobody is keeping score, and people who tell me they have no rhythm do fine every single time.
Do I need an instrument?
No. Nothing to buy, nothing to order in advance. Your hands are the instrument for the rhythm work and your voice is the instrument for the sound work.
Is this a lecture?
No. There are slides and they are short. The majority of the seventy-five minutes is you doing things rather than listening to me explain them.
What if I can't be there on the 21st?
Register anyway. The full session is recorded and sent to you afterwards, and your written Blueprint arrives regardless.
Will I have to be on camera?
No. Camera off is completely fine and a good number of people keep it that way. Nobody is watching you.
What exactly do I walk away with?
Two memory workouts you can do anywhere, a guided sound exercise, the written Sound Memory Blueprint of daily habits, and the replay of the whole session.
